Block plane, low angle
We experimented with a few less expensive planes and found that this one performed well. This plane can be used on plastic, laminates, end grain, edges and touch-up work on any flat surface. The low angle blade is fully supported, thus minimizing annoying blade vibrations. It is accurately machined and finished with a durable high gloss enamel. The cutter sits at 13½ degrees. Overall plane length is six inches.

WAY better than expected!
I wasn’t sure about pulling the trigger on this block plane. I wanted something better than a Stanley, but I didn’t want to pay for a Lie Nielson, so I decided to take a chance. What arrived is a Rider brand LABP. I was impressed with how flat the sole was out of the box, so this plane needed minimal time for setting up. A few minutes flattening the sole, a few minutes sharpening the blade, et voila, cutting through wood like butter. It has a good heft to it, sits well in the hand, and seems like it will last forever with some care. I have to say LMI knocked it out of the park with this plane.
