At Luthiers Mercantile International, our wood expertise extends effortlessly from our acoustic guitar tonewoods to electric guitar tonewoods. Solid body guitar woods are treated no differently, with excellent preparation for superb stability and respect for their many tonal and cosmetic attributes. Builders of custom electric guitars have a haven of exotic tonewoods for every part of the solid body guitar and electric bass. As you might expect, flamed Maple, like what you find on vintage Les Paul and PRS style instruments is a specialty (also called tigerstripe Maple, curly Maple and fiddleback Maple). But we offer a tremendous variety of other exotic top woods as well. Refer to the filters on this page to discover which species are currently available. During times when our Master Grade (or 4A grade, as they are more commonly called) is not available, you can assume that the 3A tops will offer quality acceptable for fine, handmade custom guitars. In the lower grades, you can expect a small compromise in the cosmetics of the wood in exchange for a great value. As always, we welcome your suggestions to help us select the right tonewood for you.
