Buckeye Burl Electric Tops
We saw the gorgeous Buckeye Burl bass guitars that Roger Sadowsky, Fodera, Alembic and others build and decided we had to offer this exotic, beautiful wood to our customers. Many of the pieces have natural edges that can be incorporated into your guitar design. The tops are super lightweight and impart little or no tone to the instrument, so consider carefully what body wood you combine them with so as to achieve the tone you're looking for.
Building an electric using Buckeye Burl is not for the faint of heart or the newer builder. The wood needs needs lots of extra care to produce a solid finished product. Buckeye sets have lots of voids that have to be filled, and knots and some punky areas that need to be stabilized and filled. There are many ways to do this. One can use clear or black epoxy, super glue, etc. to prepare these tops for use. These burl sets are sanded 1 side only in order to lessen the potential of loose knots being lost.
NOTE: We recommend using a respirator when working with this wood due to the fungus present in the wood.
