All of our fingerboards are kiln dried right here in our Windsor, California warehouse to insure that they are as stable as possible. We usually have more than 10,000 fingerboards in stock at any given time as we supply most of the major manufacturers. If you want to stock up (25 or more units), call us about getting a quote for extended quantity discounts.

All the boards are guaranteed to be free of cracks and defects, even in the lower grades. Our fingerboards are free from warpage when we ship them, though some boards (ebony particularly) may move a little when shipping to different climates. Usually, this can be corrected by weighing the board down between stickers for a while and should pose no problems once the fingerboard is glued down to the neck.

Grading on our fingerboards is based on purely aesthetic factors. 2nd grade ebony will have bold streaks and gray patches. Acquisition of pure jet black ebony is growing increasingly difficult (feel free to ask about our current stock). 1st grade will be clear of gray patches. It may have some gray mottling and thin lines and will, in general, be as close to black as possible (usually just a little oil will bring them to black).

2nd grade rosewood will be slightly more pale or wider grained than the 1st grade boards etc. 1st grade Madagascar fingerboards feature Brazilian-like black line figuring, the 2nd grade boards offer less figure but still have nice color.

Here are our standard minimum dimensions (the wood you receive may be slightly larger). Note: Occasionally we have larger dimensions available, please inquire.
