Wenge fingerboard 1/4" thick, 2nd grade, mando/uke
Wenge is a relatively homogeneous chocolate brown color with evenly spaced black veins. The wood is heavier than either Indian or Brazilian Rosewood. Wenge has found steady use in guitar construction, with dark even color and superb, ringing tonality. The workability issues (pores, splintery grain) that bother those using it for back and sides do not present themselves when Wenge is used for fingerboards. Cosmetically it is an interesting alternative to Ebony, offering a good, dark backdrop for inlay and ample hardness for holding in frets.
