Truss rod single rod compression , 8.75" x 3/16"
The compression rod is made from 3/16" stock and is wrapped in high-quality heat-shrink tubing. The adjustment is accomplished by tightening the hex nut on the threaded end of the rod. The rod is held immobile at the opposite end by means of a right-angle bend. The wrapping prevents rattling and ensures a good snug fit without binding in the slot.
We made this rod a little longer and added a 10-32 nut so you can modify the length if needed. See the product description for how best to do this.
See note about hex wrenches below.
We are finding that off-the-shelf hex wrenches are oversized and may not work with our truss rods. We are now shipping wrenches with the rods and suggest that you provide these to your customers.
The length of a compression rod needed in a ukulele or mandolin can vary depending on the scale length of the instrument (which determines neck length), where the angled seat is placed in the heel, and how deeply the rod is embedded in the neck.
We added some length to the TRMGL rod and threaded it a bit further up the rod in order to give some room for customization. The rod can now be cut shorter if needed and there will still be plenty of thread to fully seat the truss rod nut.
Cutting the rod down is a straightforward process.
Determine the overall length needed keeping in mind the truss rod nut will add approximately 1/4” of an inch to the final overall length. Use the included hex nut as a guide. Set the nut to the desired overall length and then back it up a quarter of an inch (1/4”). Place the truss rod in a vise and using the hex nut as a guide cut the unneeded rod section away with a hacksaw. Back the nut up a few spins and clean any rough edges on the rod with a file (don't go overboard). Now fully remove the hex nut to ensure the threads are even and clean. Do NOT install the truss rod with the hex nut still attached. Reattach the truss rod barrel nut and that’s all there is to it.
Please Note: With the exception of the TRUC made in Japan, all of the truss rods we carry are made, inspected, and tested in the USA. Still, we urge you to carefully inspect each rod you receive to make sure it meets your specifications. Once installed, a truss rod can be extremely difficult to replace or repair. Put each rod in a vise and turn the nut beyond its normal range of adjustment (turn it both ways if it is a two-way rod). As with all of our products, LMI is not responsible for any effect of a defective truss rod, or any related costs, beyond the price of the truss rod itself. In keeping with our return policy, we are happy to replace or refund the cost of any rod that you are not happy with. Please call for a return authorization number within 2 weeks of receiving your order. Modification of the rod in any way voids your warranty.
