  • Go-bar deck clamping jig (ref: GBD)

The LMI Go-Bar Deck is built around specially designed clamps mounted on steel rods rather than threaded rods. This slick feature enables you to raise and lower the deck more quickly than with traditional go-bar decks. The clamps are made from reconstituted HDPE (High-Density PolyEthylene) and should provide years of long life. There are also 4 stop collars included with the GBD which can be used to set the low point on the deck. You can easily lower the deck with the use of these collars by just loosening all 4 clamps and pushing the top of the deck down from the center - no more tedious turning of nuts! To raise the deck, simply loosen two clamps at a time and push up with your thumbs (instructions and photos are included with the GBD).

  • Power saw fret slotting system (ref: SPFSYP)

Designed for the table saw, this system allows the small shop to produce accurately slotted fingerboards in the most typical scale lengths.

Although we now slot using a CNC, our shop slotted thousands of fingerboards using this system. With proper care and cleaning our blades lasted months.

Stiffeners are the true heart of this system. They are made of heat-treated steel, are 5½" diameter, and each is .125" thick. This configuration controls blade runout, extends the life of the blade immeasurably, keeps it from deforming, and ensures accurate slots in your fretboard. Typical table saw stiffeners are simply not adequate for this system.

    Additional slotting templates sold separately.

  • Manual fret slotting system (ref: SPFSNIN)

The LMI Manual Slotting System is designed around our large selection of precisely machined polycarbonate slotting templates, so this tool will enable you to cut accurate fret slots for many scale lengths.

The miter box is assembled from HDPE (high-density polyethylene). Bearings to the surface guide the saw, making the jig easy to use. The miter box is tailored to our .023” fret saw just right for our fretwire and most standard fretwire options. A fret saw and a template of your choice is included in the system.

The system will accommodate up to 3 1/2" wide boards and can work with any smaller size that is large enough to be clamped. It works efficiently and effectively and can pay for itself very quickly.

    Additional templates sold separately here.

Our polycarbonate templates are resistant to breakage, unlike cheaper acrylic versions, and are CNC milled to tolerances of .002"—accuracy is guaranteed! Designed to work with either of our fret slotting systems, power or manual. Note that each template has two scales and has at least twenty-four frets (most have more than thirty slots), and they can be used for other scales you might wish to generate.

  • Plate Joining Jig for tops and backs (ref: PJJN)

Our Plate Joining Jig (PJJN) has some slick features you will enjoy. The unit is self-contained and does not need to be bench mounted. There are holes machined into the base so it can be temporarily clamped to your bench while joining your back or top. Once your plates are glued up, you can create space setting the jig aside while your glue dries. The PJJN is a simple, robust, bolt-together design which can be easily disassembled for storage. The base of the jig is constructed from non-stick HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and the top is protected by high-tech Kapton® tape.

  • 50' radiused dish, top arching form (ref: SPHFS50)

Radiused dishes (also called Hollow Forms) are mostly used when bracing the top or back in either a Go-bar deck or vacuum bracing fixture to achieve an arch or “dome” in that plate. Arched tops are believed to be stronger for their mass than flat tops, to react less due to humidity changes, and to distort less due to the pull of the strings. To easily achieve a uniformly arched plate, contour the bottom of the braces to the appropriate arch. This can be accurately accomplished by cutting, then sanding the braces on sandpaper attached to the hollow form using SPH50 aluminum oxide sandpaper. Next, glue the braces down to the plate while it is in the hollow form.
