Nagura slurry stone
Nagura stones are can be used to create a slurry on a fine natural sharpening stone. They are not recommended for use on coarse stones. The theory is that a small amount of slurry prevents the blade edge being sharpened from slipping over the sharpening stone. Nagura stones are typically used toward the end of the sharpening process when finer grit stones are being used. Nagura stones are also used as a cleaning stone after flattening a fine natural or man-made stone with a courser stone. It can smooth the surface of a flattened stone allowing better contact with the surface being sharpened.
