Use this 1/2 inch straight bit for routing a straight mortise and tenon neck joint. This bit works great with our Mortise and Tenon templates. You will need a 5/8 inch OD router guide bushing when using this bit with these templates (guide bushings can typically be purchased wherever routers are sold). See the details below to determine which length of 1/2 inch router bit you need.

Bit is 3" overall length.

Product Description

For the best grip, the router bit should be fully inserted into the collet and then backed out about 1/16″ (leaving between 3/4″ and 1″ of the shaft in the collet). The gap allows the collet and bit to be pulled down as the nut is tightened

The depth of the Neck Joint Jig (top of jig to guitar) is 1”. That measurement plus the depth of your tenon is the depth of cut you need to be able to achieve with your router. Most fixed base routers and some plunge routers can achieve this with our 3 "bits but we have found that a few routers— due to their configuration —can’t plunge low enough to rout the tenon without using a longer bit. We offer a longer bit for just this problem. Do the math using your router plunged fully to determine which bit you need.
