NKHMDHLSDIY

Honduran Mahogany, bolt-on semi-carved DIY neck, long scale, deep heel

$218.79

Our DIY (do-it-yourself) neck is a partially machined neck. We have done the hard stuff, leaving you to do the fun part! This neck is perfect for beginning luthiers who want to try their hand at neck carving but don't have the confidence to "go it alone". It is also great for accomplished luthiers who want someone else to do the grunt work but want to add their own signature to the neck by customizing the shape.

The oversized peghead allows the builders to customize their peghead thickness and shape. The peghead on this neck has industry-standard glued wings on the peghead that are virtually invisible. The neck is pre-drilled and the inserts are installed for the bolt-on neck attachment. We recommend the TRSD truss rod with this neck.

Product Description

This DIY neck is designed to be used with scale lengths 25.4-25.7”. You can change the scale length by moving the breakaway point (the point where the plane of the neck meets the plane of the headstock) by removing material from the top of the headstock. Assuming the nut is 6m wide and lies on the neck surface rather than the headstock surface, the breakaway point must land 6mm away from the end of the fingerboard. This allows room to thin down the headstock on the top, which will move the breakaway point toward the bridge. This DIY neck gives you leeway regarding the scale length and thickness of headplate veneers. REMEMBER: when considering the thickness of your headstock, you must make sure that it is right for your tuners. If you need to remove more material than the breakaway point will allow, you can always remove it from the back of the headstock.

For a 25.4” scale, remove .034” from the top of the headstock. For a 25.5” scale, remove .018”. For a 25.6” scale, remove .002”. Don’t remove any material for a 25.7” scale.
