Khaya flamed heel blank, A grade, 12" x 3" x 7/8"

This 12" heel blank is meant to be used to create a multi-piece laminated heel that is affixed to the neck blank.

Khaya has often been overlooked as a substitute for Mahogany. Though it is an attractive wood, the wide pores, lighter weight, and pinkish color we usually see in this species clearly distinguish it from "the real thing". We have found that there are different strains of Khaya that look nearly identical to Honduran Mahogany - or at least present themselves as the best substitute we have come across so far! The suggestion to carry it came from a well-known manufacturer who has been using it on their high-end instruments with no protests from discerning customers.

First-grade necks and heels are straight-grained, quartersawn with a 25° variance off quarter allowed.
