Terminalia tomentosa

Denser than most Rosewoods, Indian Laurel has surprising sonic potential. Even, brown color is augmented by variegated dark lines and a very subtle cross-grain figure. Side bending is more challenging, as expected from dense wood, but we have not had problems in our shop. It finishes, machines, and glues well.

Some sets will display fissures along the grain line. They appear as cracks at first, but upon closer inspection, you will see that these very narrow openings are bonded together by the tree's natural fiber and resins. Though you will need to fill the tiny openings before finishing there is no cause to be concerned about the wood's long-term stability, or its ability to bend normally and successfully.

Note This set is a back set only, no sides are included.

If you have elected to have us join your back, you may also wish to have us profile it. We will profile your back to the shape you choose leaving approximately 1/4 inch of extra material beyond the outline. This excess material can be removed later, once your box is complete, using a router with a flush trim bit or by other appropriate means. These options are filtered to work with the back set you are purchasing.
