Cardinal Luthierlac spray lacquer, gloss, 1 quart/32 oz

$31.14

Luthierlac Spray Lacquer was designed specifically for musical instruments. It exhibits a high degree of toughness, ease of application, fast drying, resistance to cold checking, and buffing properties that result in a beautiful finish.

Archtop builder Tom Ribbecke is a happy convert to Cardinal lacquer, saying that compared to the 'old standby' it "creates a thinner final coat, burns in better, and buffs well". He only uses 5-10% thinner in his application.

Product Description

Unlike other musical instrument lacquers, Luthierlac sinks back quickly and can be buffed after only 7 days. The lacquer is pre-reduced by 10%, so it is ready to spray. It can be further reduced to your liking from 10-20% with the Cardinal lacquer thinner.

Cardinal is a family-owned company based in Los Angeles, CA since 1952. For 60 years Cardinal has manufactured coatings of various chemistries, including nitrocellulose lacquers. Over the last few years, they have worked closely with a select group of luthiers, studying the art of guitar finishing.

Heyooo we have a winner!

Wow world of difference in how it laid down, I didn’t thin or add retarder and it laid down very smooth, this cut down my level sanding time by half easily. Buffed out to a very nice high gloss. Add (or subtract) the 7 day wait rather than your typical 14 day and I love this lacquer even more. This will now be my go to lacquer. Thanks! -Wrights Lutherie
