B/S Cocobolo Rosewood, uke concert/tenor
Cocobolo Rosewood is a beautiful wood, which when freshly cut shows bright yellow and orange-red colors. Over time it mellows to a rich brown-red with black streaks. It is probably as close to Brazilian Rosewood in beauty and tone as any wood. These visual and tonal features make Cocobolo a premium choice for many builders.
It is our opinion that our recent shipment of Cocobolo is probably Panama Rosewood (Dalbergia tucurensis). These two species often grow side-by-side and it is difficult to differentiate between them until they are cut. In order to be Lacey Act and CITES compliant we are obligated to identify species are they are designated by officials where the trees are harvested. The two are very similar in nature, but the coloration is a little different.

Cocobolo is heavier than most other Rosewoods we offer, which may contribute to its strong tone. Because it is usually oily it can sometimes be difficult to glue. Wipe the gluing surface with acetone and glue up as soon as the acetone has evaporated (usually a minute or two). Cocobolo also has excellent machining properties and can be worked well with a scraper, which will help keep dust down.
CAUTION! Since some people have allergies to this wood it is recommended that you wear a mask or respirator when sanding.
