Cork lined tilting jaws for Shop Fox Parrot Vise

This unique, inexpensive vise swivels a full 360° and locks automatically when the jaw is tightened. Once mounted, it can be set upright or on its side which makes it extremely versatile. The jaws measure 3 1/2" wide x 2 1/8" high and open to 4 1/2". Holes in the jaw allow easy customization. Optional cork lined tilting jaws (SPVISETJ) are also available.

"It really is a great tool. The shop manager, Patrick Shannon, here at the school mounted the parrot vise on a scrap of lumber that was about 1-foot wide x 3 feet in length. This way, you could take it to any table or other surface, clamp it down on the end opposite the vise, and though it looked like a diving board, it was very stable and you had full motion use of the vise. This also made it quite portable.
I could angle my guitar up or down in the vise, and also spin as needed. It gave me full access to my delicate work in cutting the sound port. It's a nice tool with so many uses, and I'm sure I will discover many more. I think it will be especially useful when fretting as I can make sure the guitar is not laying on the table as I hammer in frets. Also would be very handy for heel carving and neck carving. Great for holding the guitar during the binding process, and would be especially good for french polishing the body and be totally hands-free while working, and while the finish cures. Indeed, love this parrot vice."

Well made, but cork crumbles
A useful piece of equipment, but with a couple of serious negatives. I found the square corners on the aluminum jaw inserts to be dangerously sharp. Rounded them off with a metal file. Also the cork pads began to crumble on the first use and were deteriorating quickly until I stripped them off and replaced the cork with neoprene. With those modifications I'm happy with the quality and functionality of this vise.
