Note: For safety reasons, flanges must be used with these wheels. The flanges that come with the SPBA are not large enough to be used with this buffing wheel. We recommend the FLSF flanges.
There are a lot of options available for buffing wheels, so when deciding on what wheels to carry we consulted with numerous builders, but chiefly with Lance McCollum and Adam Stark (finish expert), and with Frank Ford of Gryphon Stringed Instruments. We are confident that you will find these wheels to be of the highest quality and ideal for finishing guitars to a high gloss.
This bias (pleated) canton flannel wheel is a 12", 12-ply metal-centered wheel. This wheel is typically used first in the buffing process to remove any scratches remaining after your final sanding.
A different buffing wheel should be used for each change in buffing compound so that you do not introduce scratches due to leftover, rougher compound on the wheel.
