B/S Bhilwara, dreadnought
Bhilwara (also be known as Ceylon Rosewood, Black Siris, and Kali Siris) was introduced to us by our longtime partners in India. Like Indian Rosewood, it is a sustainably harvested tonewood. It's a bit lighter in weight than Rosewood but delivers the same quick, present tap tone that excites luthiers! You'll hear a sustaining, deep fundamental, with crisp, distinct upper partials. Cosmetically, the wood presents a warm brown color, with subtle gold highlights and alternating color bands. The porosity mirrors Sapele, as does its pleasing ribbon figure. It machines, sands, and glues well. The wood is certain to rise to the top of the options available to those encountering the dwindling supply of endangered exotics.
