Mandolin Kits

If you choose to build a kit using the Kit Wizard, start by selecting a wizard guitar template as a starting point. Each kit wizard template includes all the most commonly recommended parts.

The Kit Wizard allows you to swap out woods, parts, and customizations/shop services as you like, all the while keeping you apprised of the discounted price! So, you can use either an economic low-grade soundboard or bump it up to the very finest we offer. Choose whether to have us bend the sides for you, or do the work yourself and pay less!

To use the Kit Wizard you must create an account and log in to our website. This allows you to create a kit (or several) and save it indefinitely. You can make as many adjustments as you like before adding it to your shopping cart and ordering it. Questions along the way? Feel free to contact us.

Over the years, the Kit Wizard has provided a solid entry into lutherie for thousands of customers looking for an alternative to other kits on the market which basically pull the components off an assembly line from a factory that mass produces guitars. The kits require the implementation of woodworking skills at every step as every single part of our kits needs to be cut, trimmed, etc. to their final dimensions by the builder. Because people use different building methods and tools, and because many use our kits to create unique designs, instructions are not included. The O’Brien DVDs provide instruction that is most closely matched to the kits, but there are many other books that provide excellent instruction. In addition, there are a ton of videos and articles in the Help Center of our website. Our helpful staff is glad to direct you to these helpful resources.

**Due to supply-chain constraints it is difficult to keep our wizard items in stock. If you find you cannot place a kit wizard order due to an out-of-stock condition please contact us and we'll do our best to find a workaround.

We highly recommend you watch these videos before using the Kit Wizard.
