“Dear Sir, A few months ago I placed my first order with you and built my very first guitar. Ovangkol back and sides with sitka top. I have been a craftsman for a number of years, rebuilding antique pianos, including making new soundboards and bridges, and decided to try my hand at guitars after buying a Taylor 814ce. The results of my first attempt were surprising, to me and to others. Since I'm a bit "old-school" I built it entirey by hand, no table saw, router, joiner etc. (I did use a driss press!). I have already received requests for custom made guitars, and from a store interested in selling them. It really helped to find quality supplies, all in one place, so I could start this experiment - which may just turn out to be my next and final career. Many Thanks. ps. I have just placed a second order so I can start making a few more......”
A cast aluminum, teardrop-shaped bending iron designed by Irving Sloane. This updated version has a chrome-like finish, great for sliding the wood against the iron. The iron itself is 6 1/2" long and 3 3/16" in cross section. Width in cross section is 2 1/8" at the widest point. The small side of the iron is particularly useful for small radius bending. The variable heat setting is helpful for finding the optimum heat-setting at which various woods will bend. It's mounted on a hardwood base that has a large hole drilled through it for clamping either vertically or horizontally to your bench. The best bending iron around!
The 220v version of our bending iron comes with an International style 2-prong plug. The International Adaptor Kit (SPBLP) will accept this plug and adapt it to almost every country's plug configuration.
CAUTION: Never leave this bending iron on high heat for more than one minute as it may damage the heating element.
Aluminum Heating Bands (sold separately) For bending laminates and purflings, we offer these aluminum bands to use with the Bending Iron (SPBPS). These bands, which fit the pipe, support the bend and help transfer heat.
Bending Aid (sold separately) Our stainless steel bending aid makes bending on a pipe or iron a breeze. The hinged handles give you more control and a cooler grip. We still recommend that you use gloves when bending to avoid accidental burns.
