I want to express my deepest gratitude to the team at LMII. When I started making guitars 26 years ago, my first guitar was made from wood that I ordered from the LMI catalog (there was no internet back then). Since then, the team at LMI has been nothing short of excellent! The products and services are second to none. My only regret is that I waited 26 years to say...THANK YOU!
Rock Maple comes from the eastern coast of North America, and unlike the more regularly figured Bigleaf maple, Rock Maple offers the requisite hardness and stability of a good fingerboard wood. These boards are quartersawn unless otherwise labeled, and even colored.
“Tempered”, “Roasted”, “baked” or 'cooked' woods are exposed to temperatures of 350° to 425° Fahrenheit (about 180°-220° Celsius). They are "cooked" in a vacuum chamber so that there is no flame or burning. The process is called 'torrefaction'. There are number of positive results with tempered wood including a darker color, greater stability, feel, and tone. We carry light tempered and dark tempered Rock Maple fingerboards.
