“Great service! I have been impressed with the quality of the items I've received (especially the fretboards). You've been very helpful with some unusual builds (the suggestion to order a bass fretboard slotted from both ends for two short-scale necks was brilliant). I was very surprised at how quickly I received an order of custom-length truss rods. You have a very happy customer."
NOTICE: The tolerances of our reinforcements are +/- .015" of the advertised dimensions, not to exceed .015" overall. You should not rout the channel for this fiber until you receive it to make sure you have a snug fit.
Since carbon fiber (also called graphite) exhibits so many of the qualities useful in fine instrument construction — namely, low weight, stiffness, stability, resistance to fatigue and creep — it naturally has come into increasing popularity among builders.
We've been making and offering carbon fiber laminates since 1982, and it continues to find more uses and more advocates.
Its low weight and high stiffness – three times stiffer than steel on a weight-to-weight basis, 80% as stiff on a cross-sectional area comparison – offers many advantages to the guitar builder. Without fear of fatigue, fan braces (between which a sheet of carbon fiber has been laminated) can be shaved down considerably, allowing the top to be more responsive to string energy.
Neck reinforcement stock can be laminated in such a manner that the reinforcement continues through the peghead joint, reducing flex and therefore reducing energy loss to the head area.
