Testimonials

"I’m about 10 tops into a stack of 40 cedar tops I got from you, and whenever I want to start a new guitar, I just walk over and pick a top off the stack, and start building.
They are all that great! I don’t have to dink around with the pattern, or select the “best" one: I just start building. I love that!  I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your high standards, and what a pleasure it is to do business with you!"

Bar Fretwire

FRETWIREBarFWBAR

Bar fretwire was commonly used on stringed instruments before the turn of the 20th century. It was used on some Martins™ into the 1930's. Bar fretwire is more difficult to install than today's extruded, tanged wire. If you need the wire to be a bit thinner, it can be rolled on a jeweler's mill to thin it out.

Our bar fretwire:

  • measures .059" wide x .157" tall x 23.5" long
    (1.5mm wide x 4mm tall x 59.7cm long)

  • has an 18% nickel/silver composition
    (18% nickel, 20% zinc and 62% copper)

  • has a Vicker's Hardness of HV5/230 (+/-15)

See Frets.com for Frank Ford's online instructions
for refretting a guitar with bar wire.
