“I received my order today and I just wanted to tell you thanks. The wood is exactly what I wanted, absolutely beautiful, the packaging was great and I'm looking forward to buying more from you. I've purchased tonewoods from other vendors and ebay before, but even the best from them doesn't compare to the quality and value of what I bought from you. Thanks again!”
These purflings are produced from black and white (B/W) veneers laminated together. The veneers may be wood, fiber or a combination of the two. The black fiber and black wood (pear) look very similar. The white fiber is very white versus the white wood (maple) which is a honey maple color. The laminate content for each purfling is listed in the purfling spec chart, below. The fiber veneer is very flexible and no bending is needed prior to installation. The wood veneers may need to be bent to avoid breakage depending on the shape of the instrument you are building and the number of laminates in the layup. One can sometimes us a simple household iron to bend these to the appropriate shape. These laminates should not be soaked.
NOTE: These laminates are offered in two lengths, 32" or 64" unless otherwise noted. 64" is essentially a wrap-around length. 32" pieces require a butt-joint. The 32" pieces are also great for rosette rings. The shorter purflings require that a ledge be routed as the purfling and binding will be different heights. The taller purflings allow you to rout a single ledge the same width (a skosh narrower) as the binding + purfling as they are essentially the same height.
See the PURFLING SPEC CHARTfor details on layup, materials and sizes of each of our purflings (inches and mm).
IMPORTANT: Because dimensions may vary due to the lay-up process. We recommend that you always wait for your material to arrive before routing your purfling or binding channel.
