Testimonials

“Thanks for continuing to strive for excellence in the many services you provide. The website looks great. The more streamlined look is less distracting and I think will make navigating the sight even better!

I have been using LMII as my main wood/parts supplier for almost 5 years now. LMII not only provides excellent products, but has been a link for me to gain access to a tremendous amount of expert knowledge and instruction on acoustic guitar building. Thanks for striving so hard to connect the dots for newer luthiers like myself to be able to benefit from the hard earned experience of the pros. I am now starting on my tenth guitar and have sold 6 of them. With each build, I strive to venture to new personal ground and it comforts me to know that LMII is always there and I can depend upon you guys for whatever I need, every step of the way."

Honduran Mahogany Neck Blanks

NECKSblankMahoganyHonduran300Swietenia macrophylla

Honduran Mahogany has been the preferred wood for steel string guitar necks for many years. It is now listed on CITES Appendix II. Due to its scarcity, finding quality, quartersawn stock has grown more difficult. Trees are smaller, resulting in far less quartersawn material and/or material that is quartersawn running to off-quarter or flatsawn. In order to be completely transparent about the product you are receiving, we have modified the way we are grading our Mahogany.

  • Premium grade mahogany necks are straight-grained, quartersawn with a 10° variance off quarter allowed. ** (See figure 1)

  • First grade mahogany necks are straight-grained, quartersawn with a 25° variance off quarter allowed. ** (See figure 2)

  • Second grade mahogany necks may have one of the following: small knots or pinholes that will not effect the integrity of the neck, off quarter as much as 50% (45°) or the grain will not be perfectly straight or there might be unevenness of color.

**Note: The longer a neck blank is, the more difficult it becomes to maintain straight grain along the entire piece. We attempt to maintain straight grain along our 35 inch necks for at least 24 inches after which the grain may veer slightly off the board.

Honduran Mahogany is shipped in U.S. only
Due to the CITES export restrictions on Honduran Mahogany, we are unable to ship this wood outside of the United States. See CITES website.

• Parts for added heels and heel blocks can be found under Various Heel Blocks.

GET THEM WHILE THEY LAST —
Our neck/heel combination sets (NKHMCOMBO)
are a great bargain. You get a neck and heel for the price of a neck. The first grade sets have a pretty well quartered neck and the heel is as much as 25 degrees off quarter which should not effect your neck much structurally. The necks on the second grade sets might be as much as 25 degrees off quarter and the heels as much as 45. These were a special purchase and once they're gone, it is unlikely we'll have them again.
