“I keep meaning to send an email and let you know that I got the prem. Indian Rosewood and was very pleased. You all at LMII have always given me great reason for trust in doing business with you. You have always treated me well and in a prompt and professional fashion. You have always helped with any problems that I might. have. Your staff is knowledgeable and professional and the materials have been great. You guys run the type of business that makes me look for things I need that I can get from you. If that doesn't work (look for things I might need in the future). Thank you for giving me a place where I can buy my materials with confidence.”
Headplates, also known as peghead veneers or faceplates, are often selected for purely aesthetic reasons, though they do add strength to the head-neck joint and are preferred to be quartersawn. Occasionally we get requests for headplates with more design or contrast such as is provided in slab-sawn pieces. Periodically additional woods are available — please ask. We carry headplates to match nearly all of our back and side woods. For an illustration of most of the headplate woods you are interested in, check out the photos listed under "back and sides". On the other hand, to obtain inexpensive samples of our back and sides woods, to see the woods first hand and present to your clients, consider purchasing our Sample Headplate and Back & Side Kit.
When you buy an Indian Rosewood headplate with an Indian Rosewood back and side set on the same order, we will do our best to match all the woods in that order. As with all of our woods, if you are interested in a particular look, please say so in the 'special instructions' box on the checkout page.
We also carry veneers to make a laminate "sandwich". In the picture of Baranik Guitars headstock, Baranik has taken the extra step of bending his headplate for a unique contoured headstock. Note Gotoh contour tuning machines!
HEADPLATE MINIMUM DIMENSIONS 7 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 7/64" • 19cm x 8.3cm x 3mm (Doubles = 2 x length)
In most cases, headplates are oversized, and sanded flat.
