Testimonials

“It's nice to know that
I have a good
source for quality
guitar wood as
well as guitar parts
fabrication, such as
LMI's fingerboard
slotting service.
As I am only set up
to slot 650mm
fingerboards, you
guys have saved my
butt on making me
several odd scale
lengths recently!
I want you to know
that I appreciate
you guys and the
wood and services
that you supply
to me, a small,
independent luthier.
Your fine fingerboard
slotting service
saves me a lot of
time and trouble,
for which I am grateful.
THANK YOU!"

Maple, Bigleaf

Acer macrophyllum

Though demands from a variety of industries can make it difficult for us to regularly stock, Bigleaf Maple should certainly be considered a well-tested 'staple' choice for back and side woods. Among the most decadently figured woods, its use on large guitars, such as the Gibson J-200, is well known. Its popularity there is likely the result of its characterization as a bright sounding tonewood (which could balance the boominess of a large body). However, many skilled builders have found it to more versatile, providing firm sonic support for a variety of different instruments.
