Indian Laurel

BSIndianLaurelBS1L1SS800Terminalia tomentosa

Indian Laurel lives in the shadow of India's main tonewood export, Indian Rosewood, but should not be overlooked. Denser than most Rosewoods, it has surprising sonic potential. The wood is quite attractive, though don't expect as much variation set-to-set as you find with Indian Rosewood. A robust, even, brown color is augmented by lightly variegated dark lines and very subtle cross-grain figure. Side bending is somewhat more challenging, as you would expect from a dense wood, but we have not had problems in our shop. Indian Laurel finishes, machines and glues well.

Many of these sets have very small fissures (see photo) which can be filled with epoxy and wood dust. They should not present any significant problems.
