Testimonials

“Dear Sir,
A few months ago I placed my first order with you and built my very first guitar. Ovangkol back and sides with sitka top.
I have been a craftsman for a number of years, rebuilding antique pianos, including making new soundboards and bridges, and decided to try my hand at guitars after buying a Taylor 814ce.
The results of my first attempt were surprising, to me and to others. Since I'm a bit "old-school" I built it entirey by hand, no table saw, router, joiner etc. (I did use a driss press!). I have already received requests for custom made guitars, and from a store interested in selling them.
It really helped to find quality supplies, all in one place, so I could start this experiment - which may just turn out to be my next and final career.
Many Thanks.
ps. I have just placed a second order so I can start making a few more......”

TransTint® Dyes developed by Jeff Jewitt, are a solution of metal-complex dyes in a special solvent that offers the finisher many unique options in applying the colors. TransTint® Dyes can be used with water, solvent or they can be added directly to a finish.

To use the dye as a stain:

  • Mix with tap/distilled water for an economical, nonflammable stain.
    OR
  • Mix with alcohol for a fast-drying, non-grain raising stain.

No waiting or straining is necessary because the dye is pre-dissolved.

Suggested mix ratio is 2 oz. dye per 1/2 gallon solvent (increase or decrease ratio to suit need). Dye solutions can be applied by brush, rag, spray, or sponge. When using a water-reduced dye, a pre-grain raising is advisable -- apply the dye with an abrasive pad like maroon Mirlon.

To use as a finish toner: One of TransTint® Dyes most unique features is their compatibility with a wide range of finishing mediums. Simply add the dye concentrate directly to shellac, water-base finishes, solvent lacquers, and catalyzed varnish or lacquers. Add any amount up to 1 oz. per quart. All dye colors are inter mixable to produce custom shades.
