Testimonials

“Great service!
I have been impressed with the quality of the items I've received (especially the fretboards). You've been very helpful with some unusual builds (the suggestion to order a bass fretboard slotted from both ends for two short-scale necks was brilliant). I was very surprised at how quickly I received an order of custom-length truss rods. You have a very happy customer."

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROCESSING CUSTOMER’S WOOD

With more people getting wood from different sources and experimenting with alternative tonewoods, we are getting more requests for services like fingerboard slotting and resawing of backs and sides. We are happy to consider working with you but we must have written instructions as to what you want done and the desired result. Please be specific. Even if you have spoken to a salesperson, which we encourage, don’t just send the wood to us. We need to have your instructions in print before we start processing your wood. Please include contact information (below) so we can ask questions, check specifics and get payment information. Sending wood to be worked is at your own risk. We are not responsible for damage in shipment, wood movement, yield, quality, dimensions, or results. We will strive to meet all of your expectations but even with over 20 years of milling experience sometimes things happen. If some criteria are not met or an accident occurs we can’t be responsible for discount, reimbursement or replacement of your wood.

Please note that our standard shipping rates do not apply to this order. We will charge you actual shipping (the same amount that the carrier charges us), but our minimum shipping charge will apply.

I understand and agree to the conditions above (please write legibly):

Wood Requirements for customers submitting their own fingerboard material
to be slotted and/or radiused:

  • All measurements on this page are in inches.
  • We can only slot/radius wood boards. We are unable to radius Maple.
RADIUSED FINGERBOARDS Max Width Min Width Max Length Min Length Max Thickness Min Thickness
Standard Fingerboards 3 1/4 2 1/2 21 20 0.400 0.275 Clean
Bass Fingerboards 3 1/4 2 1/2 29 26 0.400 0.275 Clean

  • Final thickness on radiused boards will be approximately 0.250".
  • Fret slot depth on radiused boards 0.085"- 0.110" approx. at the edge of the board.
  • We cannot sand a radiused board any thinner than 0.250".
UNRADIUSED FINGERBOARDS Max Thickness Min Thickness
Standard Fingerboards 0.400 0.250 Clean
Bass Fingerboards 0.400 0.250 Clean

  • Final thickness on unradiused boards will be approximately 0.300" unless you send in a thinner board to start with.
  • Fret slot depths on unradiused boards need to be specified. Choose either 0.095" or 0.145" and indicate the choice in your instructions. Choose the deeper slot if you plan on later radiusing your board yourself.
  • If you need wood behind the nut position slot (as in many Fender-style guitars), specify this in your instructions to us.
  • If you want a slotted, unradiused board sanded any thinner than 0.300", use the part number SVFT (an additional charge applies). Please bear in mind the slot depth specs noted above when requesting this service. Specify whether we should remove material from the top of the board (making the frets shallower) or the bottom of the board (reducing the amount of material between the bottom of the fret and the bottom of the board) as this thinning takes place after slotting.
