Testimonials

"Just letting you know the order arrived and everything looks to be correct and all good. I also found that you found the perfect length Macassar Ebony fretboard blank for my “outside of the box” acoustic project, it also has amazing striping throughout, all as per my request, thanks heaps for doing that! It looks incredible! Thanks heaps for the great service again!

Kind regards, Steve

Fretwire descriptions & Size Chart

Stainless and Gold Evo Fretwire descriptions:

  • FW37053 Evo, gold mandolin/dulcimer fretwire, harder than nickel/silver, but not as hard as stainless wire. Comes in 2 straight 2 foot lengths.

  • FWG74 Evo, gold fretwire, harder than nickel/silver, but not as hard as stainless wire.

  • FW9666 Evo, gold fretwire - This is a fairly generic size for guitars -a good replacement wire for lots of standard brand instruments. It is just a little shorter and the same width as the FWG74, which is more popular on hand-built instruments.

  • FW9665 Evo, gold fretwire, wide, like Gibson jumbo wire but a little taller (like Dunlop 6150 and SM 0149).

  • FW55090 Evo, gold fretwire - This wire is just a little wider and taller than "standard sized" wires like FW74 and FW9666. It gives you more material to work with when doing your fretwork and so can be tailored to the player a little more easily than other wires. It is also a nice choice for rock guitarists who like a little more material to dig into but don't want to step to really big wires that offer a "scalloped" fingerboard feel.

  • FWG110 Evo, gold fretwire, harder than nickel/silver, but not as hard as stainless wire. The largest crown in both width and height that we carry.

  • FWSS74 Stainless Steel. Historically our most popular fretwire size, this wire is typically used for steel string instruments.

  • FWSS110 Stainless Steel. A large crown wire in both height and width.

Nickel/Silver Fretwire:

  • FW68 Our smallest fretwire especially made for banjos, mandolins, dulcimers, and small instruments.

  • FW72H A softer, standard size, used mostly for nylon stringed instruments.

  • FW74 Hard, standard size long wearing fretwire. This is easily our most popular fretwire and is used mostly for steel string, but is often used on classical and electric guitars as well. 18% nickel silver. This wire is similar to Dunlop's #6230 wire.

  • FW75 18% nickel silver.

  • FW47104 Wide, like Gibson jumbo wire but a little taller. 18% nickel silver (like Dunlop 6150 and SM 0149).

  • FW27 A fretwire with a wider but shallower crown than the FW75. Sometimes used for basses or Jumbo re-frets. 18% nickel silver. (like Dunlop #6130).

  • FW57110 Massive! Our biggest wire. Used on basses and rock guitars for those looking for a scalloped fingerboard feel. 18% nickel silver. (Like Dunlop 6000, larger than LMI's FW110)
