This Oil finish is a great choice as a finish material for several reasons: It has very little effect on tone, it is very easy to repair, is cost effective and is relatively easy to apply. As with any finish, preparation of the wood is critical to success. A flat and smooth finish will render an attractive, professional finish on your instrument. Special care should be taken when preparing the soundboard (or any softwood) to avoid saturation (many prefer to finish this section of the instrument with shellac).
Oil finishes are particularly popular on non-painted solid body guitars and basses and some players prefer the feel of an oil finished neck over one finished with lacquer. The True-Oil sealer-filler (FTOS) is a good sealer for the oil finish, but is not a true pore-filler, so where porous woods are being finished, it is best to use one of our Micro-bead™ pore-fillers to assure a level surface.
